The following will illustrate this form of passage :—

When memorizing these and all similar passages, we should first reduce them to their simplest harmonic basis (Exs. 8a and 9a), and then note the principle upon which the figure of the passage is formed, that is, the order in which the essential and auxiliary notes occur. (See Chap. VI).
Class II will also include passages like the following:—
where the figure is modified to suit, not the different intervals of the ?ame chord but those of another chord, the passage being founded on a progression of chords. A memorization of this progression (Ex. 10 a), is a great assistance towards a memorization of the elaborated form.
